Maryann's birthday wish
On the morning of her birthday
Maryann was feeling especially lonely. Her family doesn’t live nearby, and what she needed that Wednesday was more than a meal.
When her Meals on Wheels delivery arrived, it came with an unexpected birthday gift: a beautiful handmade quilt and a card from her Loaves & Fishes family.
Maryann called us afterward, her voice filled with joy. She thanked us again and again, telling us the gift brought her to tears and made her day. She told us she uses the blanket every evening and whenever she sits in her chair—and that she plans to keep it forever.
But what meant the most to her was knowing that someone shows up for her consistently.
“Thank you to the delivery person who brings my meals every week,” Maryann said. “Thank you for the food and for your love.”
For Maryann, Meals on Wheels delivers more than nourishment. It delivers connection, comfort, and the reassurance that she is remembered and cared for.
Last year our Meals on Wheels staff and volunteers delivered more than 180,500 specially prepared meals to homebound seniors like Maryann. Along with nutritious, balanced meals prepared in our own kitchen, we also provide regular connection and wellness checks to our Meals on Wheels guests. Knowing that we are making a real difference in the lives of people like Maryann means everything to us.
