Loaves & Fishes welcomes people who are hungry to high-quality, nutritious, and satisfying meals made with love and delivered with respect.
We welcome all to our table, regardless of circumstance, providing the comfort and nourishment of accessible food served with kindness and respect. Our guests are children and adults in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties, where nearly one in three people wake up each day not knowing where or when they will get their next meal.

Our History

Loaves & Fishes started in 1980 to feed hungry members of our community. We served our first meal to 15 children and 11 adults.

For the first 35 years we prepared meals in borrowed or rented kitchens and offered them in group settings. In 2015, we redesigned our model, obtaining temperature-controlled trucks to bring our meals out into the community, and developing partnerships with non-profits and organizations to serve our shared population. 

In FY2019, we integrated our A La Carte food recovery program into our portfolio of services and began recovering prepared food and excess produce from local farms, corporate, airport, restaurant, and academic institutions and redistributing the meals to hungry people in our community. Our food recovery program enabled us to nearly double our meal production. 

In 2020/2021, we found our forever home in San Jose, CA and began remodeling it to include a new, centralized commercial kitchen necessary to continue serving the growing need in our community. We completed construction on our kitchen during the pandemic.

On July 1, 2024 we added Meals on Wheels, Medically Tailored Meals, and the Jerry Larson FoodBasket to our menu of services.

We are one of the largest nonprofit prepared food providers in the Bay Area. In FY2025, we provided 1.97 million meals to our neighbors in need.
