On Tuesday, November 27th, 2018, Loaves & Fishes is participating in Giving Tuesday, a global day to give back. You can join us and help Loaves & Fishes feed our hungriest neighbors.
“We wholeheartedly support Loaves & Fishes as a key Silicon Valley safety net provider ensuring the basic needs of the most vulnerable in our community are met. Through partnerships with other nonprofit organizations and streamlining the supply chain to get healthy meals to those who need it most, Loaves & Fishes increases the social impact of other nonprofit organizations while also reaching more people.”

Silicon Valley is one of the wealthiest places in the nation, but it is the tale of two valleys. This country – with a GDP of $16.8 trillion – has the developed world’s second highest rate of child poverty. In the Bay Area 1 in 4 children lives below the federal poverty line. In our region apartment rents average more than $2,300 per month. It takes an annual income of more than $114,000 for a family to pay their bills and put food on the table. The majority of the guests we serve earn less than $20,000 per year. Therefore, many of them have no other choice but to work multiple jobs or share homes with multiple families. Few have the time or resources to prepare food, let alone acquire ingredients. The little food they have may be eaten by another hungry family.
In FY18-19 we expect to serve over half a million meals across the Bay Area.
We hope to raise a total of $15,000 on Giving Tuesday including the matching gifts to provide an additional 6,000 nutritious meals across the Bay Area this holiday season.
The need for prepared, healthy food is growing largely due to the cost of housing. In some cases, there are 3 to 5 families sharing rent for one house where both parents need to work two to three jobs.
You can help provide nutritious meals to children, families, seniors and the homeless.
Since 1980, Loaves & Fishes Family Kitchen has been serving free, nutritious hot meals to low-income families and individuals. We are now serving a staggering 300,000 guests, including nearly 100,000 children and their families. In 2013 we reinvented ourselves and moved from a traditional soup kitchen to a caterer business model. This has successfully allowed us to more than quadruple our capacity. Now we are seeking funding to scale up our operations.
