On Tuesday, November 28th, 2017, Loaves & Fishes is participating in Giving Tuesday, a global day to give back. You can join us and help Loaves & Fishes feed our hungriest neighbors.

“Loaves & Fishes is an amazing organization that we have supported for many years. The issue of hunger is very dear to our hearts. No one should go hungry in a community like ours. Loaves & Fishes is unique in that they have found a way to make a difference on a large scale, feeding as many people as possible, in the most efficient way possible by partnering and coordinating with other organizations.”

Silicon Valley is one of the wealthiest places in the nation, but it is the tale of two valleys. This country – with a GDP of $16.8 trillion – has the developed world’s second highest rate of child poverty. In the Bay Area 1 in 4 children lives below the federal poverty line. In our region apartment rents average more than $2,300 per month. It takes an annual income of more than $114,000 for a family to pay their bills and put food on the table. The majority of the guests we serve earn less than $20,000 per year. Therefore, many of them have no other choice but to work multiple jobs or share homes with multiple families. Few have the time or resources to prepare food, let alone acquire ingredients. The little food they have may be eaten by another hungry family.

In FY17-18 we expect to serve over half a million meals across the Bay Area.

On #GivingTuesday your gift will be doubled up to $15,000! Lydia & John Vidovich have generously offered a matching gift of $10,000 and Cisco Systems Inc. will match your gift up to $5,000! We hope to raise a total of $30,000 on Giving Tuesday including the matching gifts to provide an additional 12,000 nutritious meals across the Bay Area this holiday season.

The need for prepared, healthy food is growing largely due to the cost of housing.  In some cases, there are 3 to 5 families sharing rent for one house where both parents need to work two to three jobs.

You can help provide nutritious meals to children, families, seniors and the homeless.

Since 1980, Loaves & Fishes Family Kitchen has been serving free, nutritious hot meals to low-income families and individuals. We are now serving a staggering 290,000 guests, including 80,000 children and their families. In 2013 we reinvented ourselves and moved from a traditional soup kitchen to a caterer business model. This has successfully allowed us to more than double our capacity. Now we are seeking funding to scale up our operations.
